Who is responsible
Quietly Concerned is run by Kyle Meenehan, who is the responsible party for your personal information (under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, POPIA) and the controller (under the EU and UK GDPR). For anything about your data, email .
What is collected, and why
Only when you join the mailing list:
- Your email address, to send you news about new music and shows.
- Your first name, if you give it, so emails can greet you by name.
- Your city, if you give it, so you can hear about shows near you.
- Where you signed up (for example, the home page or the shows page), to understand which parts of the site are useful.
The legal basis is your consent. You confirm it by clicking the link in the confirmation email, and you can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.
Your details are never sold or shared with anyone for their own marketing.
Who handles it
- Kit (kit.com) runs the mailing list and stores the details above on our behalf. Kit is based in the United States, so your information is transferred there under Kit's data-protection terms.
- Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web host, it processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a signup comes from a person, not a bot. It doesn't use cookies to track you across sites.
Analytics and cookies
Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies, doesn't fingerprint your device and doesn't follow you around the web. It shows totals such as page views and referring sites, not individuals.
This site sets no cookies of its own.
Videos and music players
YouTube, Spotify and Bandcamp players only load when you click them. Until then, your browser doesn't contact those services. Once you press play, their own privacy policies apply.
How long it's kept
Your mailing-list details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for them to be deleted.
Your rights
You can ask to:
- see the information held about you;
- correct it;
- have it deleted;
- object to it being used, or withdraw your consent.
Email and you’ll get a reply within 30 days. If you’re not happy with the answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator in South Africa, or to the data-protection authority where you live.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Significant changes will also be announced on the mailing list.
